FAQs
Why are programs like Helping Paws needed?
Community Support: Through its Russell H. Perry Pet Resource Center, the SPCA assisted 1,602 pets, including food, fostering, and boarding services, achieving a 90% retention rate in homes. This highlights the importance of community-based support systems in preventing pet surrenders.
Adoption and Intake Statistics: In 2024, the DFW Humane Society reported 81 adoptions, 84 intakes, and 12 transfers to rescue partners. These figures indicate a steady flow of animals through the shelter, emphasizing the need for continuous support and resources.
What is the first step in starting my journey with Helping Paws?
The first step is to check the areas Helping Paws serves: 75080, 75205, 75214, 75219, and 75287.
Next, schedule a complimentary 30-minute consultation. During this session, we’ll discuss your dog’s needs, answer any questions, and provide guidance on the next steps in your training journey. We believe in creating a personalized plan unique to each dog and owner, so this consultation helps us understand how to serve you best.
How much does the training program cost?
Our sessions are available in custom packages starting at just $25 per hour. After your initial consultation, we’ll create a training package that fits your needs and goals. Whether you're focusing on specific skills or comprehensive training, we offer flexible options to suit your schedule and budget.
How do you work with rescues and fosters?
Two ways: 1) we partner directly with rescues and other fosters to provide short-term transitional onboarding placement and assessment for high-anxiety dogs to minimize return, and 2) provide care when caregivers need a break.
Why is a consultation required before booking sessions?
We require a consultation to ensure that we understand your dog’s specific needs and provide the most effective training plan. We are not the best fit for every dog because every dog is different, and a personalized approach is key to success. This consultation allows us to assess the situation and create a strategy that will work best for you and your dog.
What is the Helping Paws training strategy, and how does it benefit my dog?
Our strategy is a starting point to build a foundation for training high-anxiety dogs. It incorporates positive psychology techniques focusing on emotional regulation, confidence-building, and behavioral reinforcement to help reduce anxiety. It teaches your dog essential skills like leash walking, potty training, and calming techniques. You can explore one of our more frequently used tools, Paw Champ training, and watch our journey on HelpingPawsTips.com. It's one of our favorite strategies and a great gift when visiting the site!
